What does it take to be a Vanguard Award winner? Someone who makes “an unmistakable impact on the industry at-large.” And according to HousingWire, Steve Smith fits that description.
The entire team at Stearns is thrilled to share that Steve Smith, our CFO, has been named a 2017 Vanguard Award winner.
As we look back at the impact he’s had over the 12 months, one of the most important things he’s accomplished has been to lead us beyond the digital divide that exists in other organizations.
Although many lenders have skillfully executed customer-facing digital mortgage services, many haven’t delivered similar tech solutions for their internal teams. Under Smith’s leadership, Stearns has developed a seamless, cross-functional digital platform that ties together accounting, procurement functions, vendor management and the entire maintenance cycle.
With Smith’s strategic direction, the digital amplification has created efficiencies and increased cost containment, while ensuring that we stay ahead of the technology curve. This streamlined digital workflow provides a superior experience for associates throughout the entire organization, which demonstrates our commitment to both our valuable employees and the customers we serve every day.
When asked what habit has made the greatest contribution to his success, Smith replied that he avoids being distracted by the tyranny of the urgent, while remaining laser-focused on those goals that will have the most significant long-term impact. He also says that he’s been influenced by Zig Ziglar’s quote stating that, “Attitude, not Aptitude, determines Altitude.”
We are truly fortunate to have him in our organization where we observe him living these values on a daily basis. Our warmest congratulations to Steve Smith for the great honor of receiving the 2017 Vanguard Award!
